The Cowichan Valley Basket Society, which operates a daily soup kitchen and a food hamper program for people who need help getting enough food to eat, announced Monday morning, March 23, that they have temporarily closed their doors due to a possible COVID-19 exposure at the facility.

The facility, located on Garden Street in Duncan, will be closed for at least the week of March 23 to 28, said volunteer Colleen Fuller, but will definitely not re-open until test results are in. She said the possible exposure would have been last week.

“We’re doing our best to keep our staff and our customers safe, so we’ve had to make this horrendous decision,” Fuller said.

There are many in the community who depend on the daily meals and food bank services offered by the Basket Society.
