Daniel Coogan, 28, accused of killing his brother last year in the apartment they shared, will be back in court on Feb. 24.
He will face a preliminary inquiry — an initial inquiry where it’s decided if there is enough evidence to proceed with the case — at the Duncan Courthouse on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
The preliminary inquiry is expected to run for four days.
Just before 12:30 a.m. on May 4, 2019, RCMP officers from the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP were called to Prevost Place in the 3200-block of Cowichan Lake Road in North Cowichan for a report of a fight in progress.

When officers arrived, they discovered Coogan’s brother, 23, suffering from fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the residence.
Coogan has been in custody since then.

As well at the Duncan Courthouse on Feb. 18, Kevin Timothy, who is facing an animal cruelty charge in the Hope the dog case, faced a judge in an arraignment hearing.

His case is being held over until he appears again before a judge at the Duncan courthouse on March 3 at 9 a.m.
Timothy was the owner of a one-year-old female German shepherd called Hope until last May when the BC SPCA took custody of the animal after she was discovered in critical condition tied to a tree.
