For the month of June only, recycling centres in the Cowichan Valley Regional District will require all yard and garden waste customers to weigh-in their material.

The data collected will help determine residential and commercial yard waste disposal volumes at each recycling centre, giving the CVRD more information for future planning.

Residential yard and garden waste tipping is still free.

“We appreciate that weighing in isn’t as fast and convenient as bypassing the scale and are working on reconfiguring traffic flows in the long-term,” the CVRD said in a press release.

“We are also developing a more efficient yard waste drop-off area to make up for time spent in the lineup. In the meantime, there are two staff members in the Bings Creek scale house to help reduce wait times. Thank you for your patience while we work towards balancing the needs of our community.”
