Cowichan-Malahat-Langford MP Alistair MacGregor is encouraging local governments and organizations to apply for the New Horizons for Seniors Program before the Dec. 21 deadline.

Organizations can receive up to $25,000 in funding for programs that benefit vulnerable senior populations, focus on diversity of Canada’s seniors, and promote volunteerism to increase the organization’s capacity.

Community-based projects help encourage seniors to stay involved with the community, increase their social participation and inclusion, stay active, and share their knowledge skills and experience with other community members.

“Over the past several years, I’ve watched many organizations take advantage of the New Horizons for Seniors program for the betterment of our communities,” said MacGregor.

“It is important that our government recognize and support the many contributions that seniors make to our community. I hope that as many organizations as possible capitalize on this opportunity to empower seniors here in Cowichan-Malahat-Langford.”

The New Horizons for Seniors Program provides a wide range of opportunities for seniors to participate in meaningful activities that nurture their personal growth and foster community prosperity.

The deadline for NHSP applications is Dec. 21.
