The Cowichan Lake District Chamber of Commerce could soon have a new home.

President Brent Clancy said the chamber is looking at options and is confident a new location will be announced soon.

The chamber had its headquarters at the Cowichan Lake Visitor Information Centre on South Shore Road, which it ran until 2021 until its service contract with the Town of Lake Cowichan ran out and the chamber didn’t renew it.

Clancy said, since then, the chamber’s administrative work was taken care of at the home of Katherine Worsley, the chamber’s manager.

But he said the chamber maintained a physical presence in the community since it left the visitor centre with its mobile unit, which visits events and other gatherings in the community to hand out information and answer questions related to local businesses and services.

Clancy said the chamber hired 22 staff members during 2022 to work on the mobile unit through the WorkBC Grant program, Shop Local BC and other programs.

But he said the chamber is excited to be on the cusp of having an office that will be open to the public again.

Clancy said, once open, the new headquarters is looking forward to opening up a business centre once more where photocopying, printing, faxing and other services will be available.

“We’ll also be bringing back our branding and signage, and people will see our chamber signs when they’re entering the town again,” he said.

“In addition, we’ll have a more professional space to have meetings. A new home base will be a more permanent centre for our staff people as well. People will be able to come and see us and access information on the businesses and services in the town and the Cowichan Lake area. We’re looking forward to it.”
