A detour remains in effect for Cowichan Bay Road after heavy rains caused flooding in the area.
The road is flooded between the TransCanada Highway and Tzouhalem Road, and transit commuters in that area have had their routes (#8 and #9) switched to Bench Road.
Authorities with Cowichan Community Policing ask motorists to not ignore warnings and continue to use Bench Road as an alternate route until the flooding subsides.
This is not the first time the road has flooded. A large storm almost two years ago to the day also saw the same road closure between the highway and Tzouhalem Road, and a landslide in February 2016 in this same area was blamed on heavy rains.
