North Cowichan councillor Christopher Justice is running for re-election in the upcoming municipal elections in North Cowichan.

He said that with the completion of the municipality’s new official community plan, North Cowichan is at a critical juncture.

Justice said the next council will have to make important decisions that will affect the future of the Cowichan Valley and the quality of life of residents young and old; decisions that will directly affect housing affordability, the local economy, the environment, community growth, and taxation.

“I believe that by working together, we can find creative solutions to the issues we are facing while at the same time protecting and enhancing the natural environment, the character of our existing neighbourhoods and towns, and the quality of life we enjoy here,” he said.

“Our task is to ensure that the policies and actions we take over the next four years to address these challenges account for the things we value most; the character of our diverse neighbourhoods, the environment and its natural beauty, and our rural nature.”

Justice’s family has lived in the Cowichan Valley for a couple of generations.

Since winning a seat on council in 2018, he said he has been a strong voice for healthy communities and environmental protection.

“I am committed to responsible land-use and growth management, affordable housing in safe and thriving neighbourhoods, protection and restoration of the environment, a strong and diverse local economy, and accountable government spending and taxation,” Justice said.

“It is imperative we work toward making life more affordable. This includes supporting the development of a strong and diverse local economy that provides meaningful employment, and making good decisions that keep taxes reasonable.”

Justice said he is proud of council’s work over the past four years and what has been accomplished.

“A new official community plan, the development of an affordable housing policy, and the beginnings of a biodiversity protection strategy; yet, there is much more to be done,” he said.
