A Do Not Occupy order remains posted at 9309 Chemainus Road under the Municipality of North Cowichan’s Nuisance (Controlled Substance) Bylaw after North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and the Emergency Response Team raided the residence Jan. 30.

“The Do Not Occupy order prevents residents from returning to the residence until such time as remediation requirements as outlined in Section 8 of the above mentioned bylaw have been completed,” noted Rachel Hastings, North Cowichan’s senior bylaw officer.

“North Cowichan is not able to disclose specific details regarding active enforcement files. However, I can confirm that North Cowichan is working closely with the RCMP, Work Safe, North Cowichan’s Building Department and the property owner to ensure all health and safety requirements have been met prior to any occupancy of the building.”

“At this point in time, nobody should be there,” stressed Cpl. Trevor March of the Street Crime Unit.

Numerous complaints about drug and property crime activity were filed with police that led to the eventual raid of the residence. March noted police are continuing to monitor the house.

Drugs and stolen property plus counterfeit currency were seized during the execution of the search warrant. All property seized has now been identified.

“Investigators are working on a disclosure package with Federal Crown Counsel at this time for approval of charges on several suspects,” March indicated.
