Six directors were acclaimed at the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce’s annual general meeting held on Nov. 20.

With six positions open and six candidates there was no need for an election. Incumbent director Ruth Hartmann of Hartmann Interior Design will be joined by newcomers Vince Avery of Thrive Now Physiotherapy, Karen Bresler of KBL Law Corporation, Don Hatton of Hatton Insurance Agency, Christopher Schmerk of TD Canada Trust and Pamela Stover of PD Stover Professional Corporation.

Directors continuing their terms include Lynn Clark of Maple Bay Manor, Chris Duncan of MNP LLP, Arlene Johnson of G3 Mechatronics, Danielle Killam of Grant Thornton LLP, Penny Lehan of Coleman Fraser Whittome Lehan Schmid and Carol Messier of Maple Bay Marina.

Current president Julie Scurr of Coast Salish Insurance has announced that she will be stepping down as present at the December board meeting.

“I’ve been president for four and a half years and it’s time for someone else to pick up the reins,” Scurr told the Chamber members at the AGM held at Arbutus Ridge Golf Club.

“It’s time for a new person to bring a fresh perspective to the chamber and I’m confident that I’m leaving the organization in a good and stable position.”

The Chamber also appointed four directors who will represent their organizations at the Chamber table. They are: Ian Locke, Downtown Duncan Business Improvement Area; Keith Chicquen, Vancouver Island University; Cathy Robertson, Community Futures Cowichan; and Amy Melmock, Economic Development Cowichan.
