Business notes: Duncan’s Business Showcase becomes Business Expo

We’re now about a month away from what will be one of the biggest business events of the year.

Exhibitor registrations are now open for 2019 Business Expo & Community Social presented by Island Savings.

The Expo will be a celebration of Chamber Week and is sponsored by Island Savings and the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce. The 2019 Business Expo and Community Social will be held at the Ramada Hotel & Conference Centre on Wednesday, Feb. 20 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

“This event was previously held in October and was known as Business Showcase,” explains Sonja Nagel, executive director of the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce.

“We will be jumping into spring with a new format aimed at providing retailers, solopreneurs and home-based businesses with the opportunity to showcase and sell their goods and services to the Cowichan Community.”

Exhibitor tables are only $75 and there are a limited number of spaces available.

“It’s a good idea to register early so you don’t miss out,” Nagel adds.

Still with the Chamber, Aaron Sutherland, vice-president of the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s Pacific division, will be the first luncheon speaker for 2019.

The luncheon will be on Thursday, Jan. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ramada Hotel and Conference centre.

And on Wednesday, Jan. 23, the first Chamber Mixer of 2019 will take place at the Island Savings branch on Trunk Road next door to JYSK.

You can count on the team at Island Savings to put on a great event. It runs from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Since the initiative’s inception in 2012, Deeds Well Done has cumulatively donated more than $80,000 to more than 250 charities throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario, directly supporting the causes that matter most to Canadians. Winning charities are determined based on the impact they have on the community and their willingness to go above and beyond for those most vulnerable and in need. As part of the initiative, guests who nominate a charity will receive a $25 Mr. Mikes gift certificate to thank them for their involvement.
