A cannabis shop located at 6-3050 Allenby Rd. wants people to know it’s there.
A Little Bud, which features a wide array of cannabis products, opened about a week before a landslide closed a section of Allenby Road, between Miller Road and Boys Road, on Nov. 15.
The section of road remains closed indefinitely while geotechnical work on the slopes above it is carried out.
While the closed area begins about 100 metres west of A Little Bud and the business is located on the part of Allenby Road that remains open, the dramatic drop in vehicles passing by has negatively impacted the business.
Manager Magz Hedley said she has been in continuous contact with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, local road contractors and Cowichan Tribes since November and she has yet to be told when the road will reopen.
“We’re now down to two staff members from the five we had when we first opened,” she said.
“If the road was open, there would be more traffic and maybe things would be a little different. We’re trying so hard, but a lot of people just don’t know we’re here.”
But Hedley is confident that once the road reopens, business will pick up.
She said A Little Bud intends to open a second shop next door, called A Little More, on July 1 that will feature exotic munchies from around the world, but the munchies won’t be infused with cannabis.

Cobble Hill’s Moo’s Pizza is celebrating its 10th year in business.
Owner Melissa Cottam began her pizza journey in the Cowichan Valley 23 years ago.
She started off as a delivery driver and soon became a cook and a manager and more.
When her employer closed down in 2012, Melissa launched Moo’s Pizza, and it has been a success story ever since.
Cottam oversees every aspect of the company along with her niece Shai (mini Moo), and has a legendary name for helping out whenever she can in providing support, donations, and assistance for many groups and organizations that need help in the Cowichan Valley.
“Thank you to all our staff, past and present, our loyal and devoted customers, our suppliers and office team,” Cottam said on the company’s Facebook page.
“Most of all, thank you mom for believing in me when I said I was going to open a pizza place. I hope you are smiling from above and smiling today.”

Vancouver Island craft cannabis farmers, processors, and psilocybin [aka magic mushrooms] producers are taking part in a special one-day roundtable meeting in Duncan on June 16 with patients, elected officials, community, business and Indigenous leaders.
A press release said the goals of the community roundtable are to identify economic and social development opportunities common to Vancouver Island’s internationally recognized craft cannabis and psilocybin producers; and to discuss partnerships and pathways to achieve these opportunities in the public interest.
The roundtable will be held at The Hub at Cowichan Station from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Based on Vancouver Island, TheraPsil is a non-profit coalition of healthcare professionals, patients, and advocates dedicated to obtaining access to safe, effective, and legal psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for Canadians.
Over the past two years, TheraPsil has successfully advocated securing more than 80 exemptions from the federal Minister of Health for Canadians to legally possess psilocybin for medical purposes.

Members of the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce are invited to a special Kick off the Summer 2022 Breakfast on June 22 from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the Cowichan Regional Visitor Centre.
The chamber will be serving up a continental style breakfast with coffee from Shawnigan House Coffee & Chocolate and plenty of delicious baked goods from local bakeries.
“This will be our first breakfast event in more than two years,” the chamber said on its website.
“We are excited to host this breakfast event in the Cowichan Regional Visitor Centre. Join chamber staff, board of directors and fellow chamber members and find out what’s happening in Cowichan this summer. There will be door prizes for various Cowichan activities and businesses.”
