On July 21, Lake Cowchan RCMP and the Lake Cowichan Fire Department responded to an accident on Highway 18.
A single vehilcle heading westbound veered left into the ditch but did not hit any oncoming traffic.
Corp. Krista Hobday of the Lake Cowichan RCMP says that it is suspected that the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The passenger was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital, but was released later the same day. The driver sustained only minor injuries.
The highway was shut down and traffic moving in either direction was rerouted to Cowichan Lake Road.
No names have been released as of yet.
