$10,000 stolen bikes recovered after Maple Bay break-in

Police track high-end bikes to storage locker

A pair of high-end mountain bikes were recovered in the Shawnigan Lake area, less than a week after they were stolen from a Maple Bay residence.

The bikes, which were valued at more than $10,000 were taken during a break and enter on May 14. Officers with the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Street Crime Unit received information about the theft, and were granted a search warrant at a local motel on May 20. That investigation led police to a storage locker in Shawnigan Lake, where both bikes were discovered.

The investigation into the original break-in is continuing, and police are optimistic they will be successful in that regard as well.
