Tek Manhas

I am running to fill one of the councillor positions in the Oct. 20 election because I believe in giving back to my community.

I have called the Cowichan Valley my home for the past 53 years, growing up in Paldi, and North Cowichan the past 41 years. I raised my family here, and benefitted from the local school system and other amenities in North Cowichan.

I have been a senior manager for an international company and worked for a number of family based businesses. This background provides me with business experience and knowledge that will be an asset at the council table, as the council manages your money to maintain and enhance the quality of like we all enjoy in North Cowichan.

I volunteered as a board member on the Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce, Cowichan Fringe Festival Society, and am currently vice president of the Vancouver Island Sikh Cultural Society which runs the Sikh temple on Sherman Road as well as serving as a director of Community Futures Cowichan, where I chair the Business Developmente Committee. I am also an appointee to the Punjabi Canada Legacy project advisory board.

North Cowichan is a unique place loved by many and I will work hard to keep this a family friendly, affordable and dynamic community for generations to come.

I am asking for your support for the following:

• affordable housing

• maintain tax increased to no more than the rate of inflation

• work in a collaborative way and make job creators welcome in North Cowichan

• create liveable communities, which includes recreation facilities.
