Lake Cowichan’s current mayor wants to keep going and he’s willing to retire from his day job to focus on that task.
Ross Forrest is seeking re-election come October.
“I am pleased to announce that I have decided to put my name forward to seek re-election as mayor of Lake Cowichan,” he said. “I have put a lot of thought into this decision and I have considered the encouraging words of family, friends and feedback from my constituents. If I am re-elected it is my plan to retire from my career with North Cowichan and bring a stronger, singular and committed focus to my prospective role as leader of this community.”
Forrest has spent a decade leading the small lakeside community and they’ve been some of the best years of his life.
“Over the past three terms I have felt that being Mayor of Lake Cowichan is the best job in politics; I have an emotional investment in this community and I am committed to its continued growth,” he said.
Slow and steady wins the race, according to Forrest.
“I think we’ve done some nice steady growth in the last while and I’d like to see it continue at a nice manageable rate,” he said.
Under Forrest’s leadership, council has brought a columbarium to the community, finally brought the long-awaited Centennial Park ball fields to fruition and moved forward the Town’s beautification process, including a new welcome sign and aesthetic changes to the Town’s entrance.
