Tim McGonigle is running for councillor for the Town of Lake Cowichan.
My name is Tim McGonigle, and on Oct. 20 I’m asking you to consider re-electing me to the position of town councillor for Lake Cowichan.
Experience, fiscal responsibility and open mindedness are qualities that I bring to the table. I’ve been married for 41 years, with two grown children and three young grandsons.
While serving on council I have held many committee positions, contributing to decisions moving forward. I’m committed to decisions that benefit the whole community, not special interest groups.
I’m also mindful of financial decisions made by council and the impacts those have on our residents on fixed incomes. Property taxation is not, in my opinion, the avenue to address complex social issues, such as affordable housing and the opioid crisis, and should not be downloaded to municipal government through property taxation.
Good policy, appropriate bylaws and possible incentives to developers should be the avenue chosen to address the housing issue. With major needed infrastructure projects nearing completion, the focus of capital improvements should now be on established neighbourhoods which have been bypassed for many years, and are in need of attention.
If re-elected, I commit to do my best to work for the whole community. On Oct. 20, if you have similar concerns, please vote for Tim McGonigle.
