The Kerry Park Islanders U13 team skated to a silver medal in their own tournament over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
A defender since he began playing hockey at five years old, Dallas Simard scored his first career goal as a forward.
"This year coach Rob wanted to see him as a forward and he found his way onto the score sheet with a ripper from the offensive circle where Kiro Ellis won the face off and passed it to Dallas for a one-timer, top right corner," said his mom Marsha Simard. "He was so happy and we were so proud."
Lennox Gill scored many goals over the weekend, as did Wade Sangara.
The semi-final was intense as the lead went back and forth between the Islanders and their opponents.
"It was very competitive," Simard noted.
Tied in the third period with just about 30 seconds remaining, the Isles scored to take the late victory.
"Parents were jumping and the kids were so so happy and proud of themselves," she recalled.
