Kraken meet Victoria in midweek match-up

The Lake Cowichan Kraken were on the ice Thursday night against the Cougars in Victoria for a rare mid-week match-up

The Lake Cowichan Kraken were on the ice Thursday night against the Cougars in Victoria for a rare mid-week match-up and they were able to come up with a big 4-1 victory.

The Kraken conceded a goal less than five minutes into the game but after that their team shut Victoria's offence doen and they never looked back.

Cooper Barclay scored his seventh of the season at the 14-minute mark of the first period after being left all alone in front of the net. The assist went to Bevin Williams who made a perfect cross-crease pass to tie the game.

Laroslav Morozov scored his eighth of the year when a tape-to-tape pass gave a wide-open shot by Austin Galway, which resulted in a rebound that bounced right to the stick of an open Morozov for the Kraken's second goal of the night. Luke Bennett and Landon Carson earned the assists.

Lake Cowichan's third goal of the game came off the rush. Williams broke out and passed it off to Barclay and somehow the puck went off a skate and into the back of the net during a goal-mouth scramble. Barclay was credited with his eighth of the year to tie Morozov for second most goals on the team.

Bennett finished the scoring off in the seventh minute of the third period when he fired a shot from the blue-line that beat the crowd in front of the net. Barclay and Gellert Kiss-Molnar had set up the play. It was Bennett's sixth goal of the year.

The Kraken went on to play host to their expansion-mates, the Port Alberni Bombers on Friday night and won their second in a row, 2-1.

Aleksander Leonelli and Bennett got the goals for Lake Cowichan.
