Peewee
A clash of the titans on Sept. 28 pitted the Southside Dawgs against the peewee Bulldogs at McAdam Park. The team buckled down and came away with a huge win.
This past weekend, the team battled hard to a 32-32 draw against Nanaimo.
"I am so proud of our team putting in so much effort at practice to earn these big moments," said head coach Justin Young. "They have all worked so hard for this."
Junior Bantam
After a tough 28-19 loss to the Southside Dawgs at home on Sept. 28, the JB Bulldogs lined up against Nanaimo on the road this past weekend.
The Seahawks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. Not daunted, Cowichan regrouped and took a 13-8 lead by the half, fuelled by two interceptions; a 30 yard interception return by Kalem Thomas and a half-ending 22-yard interception return by Gus Steeves. Eli Atchison had two touchdown runs of 80 and 82 yards to lead the offence.
"Eli made plays on offence and defence when our leading tackler got injured early in the first half and Eli had to step up on both sides of the ball," said head coach Mike Williams.
In the second half, the Bulldogs offence was led by two long pass receptions thrown by Steeves to Oaklan Bourelle. The first was for 40 yards and the second was for 33 yards. Each setting up short TD runs by Atchison. Atchison finished up with four touchdowns on 220 yards rushing.
"It was a complete team win that gets us back in the win column and provides momentum going into a tough next week's game against Westshore in Langford," Williams said.
Bantam
A 34-0 win over the Comox Raiders last week had the bantam Bulldogs riding a high as they welcomed Nanaimo Seahawks to McAdam Park on Oct. 6. The team held out for a 19-14 win on home turf.
Midget
After a bye week to rest up, the midget Bulldogs hit the road to play the North Surrey Bears on Oct. 6. The score was not available by the Citizen's press time.
