The Kerry Park Islanders broke a three-game losing streak by exploding for a 9-2 home-ice victory over the Saanich Predators on Sept. 28.
Carson Brown and Rylan Davis netted a pair each while singles came from Cameron Lott, Jacob Morrison, Colby Robinson, Matson Waring, and Benjamin Stocks.
It was the perfect turnaround after losing three straight and the Isles looked to keep the momentum going on Oct. 5 against the Lake Cowichan Kraken at Kerry Park Arena.
They did just that, beating their cross-Cowichan rivals by a 4-2 score. Davis and Morrison both scored for the Islanders in the first five minutes of the game but the Kraken fought back with a Laroslav Morozov goal, his team-leading fifth of the year, to end the period.
The Kraken tied the game midway through the second frame but Kerry Park pulled ahead once more with 65 seconds left in the period thanks to Bryce Kohler's first of the season. Colby Robinson iced it late in the third with an empty netter — his second goal of the short campaign.
Ethan Barron earned the win between the pipes for the Isles while Tanner Ferril took the loss for the Kraken.
The following night the Peninsula Panthers visited the Islanders and a power-play goal from Nate Grinevitch opened the game's scoring in the second period, though the Panthers countered several minutes later.
No scoring in the third period meant the game could go to overtime and just 41 seconds in, Peninsula scored, dashing Kerry Park's hopes for three in a row.
Despite casting aside 33 of 35 shots, Ethan Taylor took the loss in net for the Islanders.
"We got three out of four points," said head coach Jake Ebner of the weekend's production. "I was really happy with how the team played, especially on Sunday on back-to-back games and Sunday being a day game."
Both of the region's teams play on Thursday, Oct. 10 with the Isles on the road against the Victoria Cougars and the Kraken in Nanaimo against the Buccaneers.
Both teams then face the Port Alberni Bombers, with the Kraken hosting the Bombers on Oct. 11 and the Islanders visiting them in Port Alberni on Oct. 12.
