Maple Bay waterskier Madison Savory had her first runs representing Canada at the 2024 International Waterski and Wakeboard Federation's Waterski Pan-American Championships at Club Los Lagartos in Bogotá, Colombia.

Savory, 12, competed in the slalom and trick events in the U14 category, making it through to the finals in the slalom competition where she ultimately placed seventh, helping the Canada's U14 squad to win bronze in the team event.

Beukeboom Captains Canada

Former Cowichan Piggie, Tyson Beukeboom was one of two captains to lead Canada to WXV 1 women’s rugby tournament victories over France and Ireland.

Ranked second in the world, Canada beat fourth-ranked France 46-24 at B.C. Place on Sept. 29 and sixth-ranked Ireland 21-8 on Oct. 5 at Willoughby Stadium at the Langley Events Centre. Canada's final game was on Oct. 12 at B.C. Place against the top ranked team in the world, England. Canada ended up as the WXV 1 runners up, falling to England 21-12.

Capitals Tidbits

• Former Cowichan Valley Capital Laurent Brossoit (2009-10) made the opening night roster for the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks.  Brossoit is one of 16 BCHL alumni listed on rosters across the NHL to start the season.

• Cowichan Valley Capitals winger Camden Bajzer has committed to play NCAA Div. 1 hockey at Bowling Green State University. 

• Forward Brendan Russell, younger brother of current Capitals twins Garrett Russell (defender) and Hayden Russell (forward), has signed a letter of intent with the Capitals for the 2025-26 season. The brothers come from Huntington Beach, California. 

• Forward Noah Lawless of Mission, B.C. has also signed a letter of intent to play for the Capitals in the 2025-26 season. Lawless is playing with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds U18 squad in the BCEHL this season. He put up 31 points in 36 games last season with the T-birds.

• The Capitals have joined the Goals For Hunger campaign in support of Cowichan Valley Basket Society. For every Cowichan goal scored, the team will donate $2 to the cause. Fans are welcome to donate as well by visiting bit.ly/Goals4Hunger
