Cowichan players earn soccer accolades

News and notes from the Cowichan Valley soccer community

Savory earns top honours

CVSA player Kennedy Savory has been recognized multiple times this spring and summer for her soccer prowess. Following a successful campaign with a spring league team in Nanaimo, the 10-year-old was named the league's top female prospect.

For her efforts during a Vancouver Whitecaps soccer camp in July, Savory was named "Coaches Choice Player of the Camp", and, following a Real Madrid Foundation Camp, also in Vancouver this July, Savory was named one of the best players (both in skill and values) and with that came an invitation to spend a week training at the official Real Madrid training centre in Spain next spring.

Savory will compete for a spot on a U12 team this fall.

Cowichan adult soccer goes online

The Cowichan Valley Soccer Association has been working hard to bolster its online presence.

"Over the last couple of months we’ve been developing a website for more of a spotlight for our adult teams," CVSA's Megan Branch said.

The goal is to feature team sponsors and hopefully get more people interested in the CVSA and out to the games.

While the site (cowichansocceradult.com) is now live, it's still a work in progress. It will feature a link to the CVSA's home site (cowichansoccer.com) as well as pages for the both the women's and men's teams, a FAQ section and a link to buy CVSA merchandise.

Co-ed gold for CVSA team

A co-ed contingent from the Cowichan Valley Soccer Association won a popular seven-aside soccer tournament in Victoria July 26-28.

Billy's Brew Crew, sporting Tacoma Blue uniforms, won the 2024 Turf Burn event at the Juan de Fuca sports fields.

Honouring the late Billy Keserich, the adult team had a blast at the event known as much for its soccer as for its good vibes.

"What a weekend and what a squad," said the team on social media. "Unreal weekend from the entire team, but major shoutout to our all-star keeper Ricky."
