Cowichan Jr. B Thunder still looking for third win

Looking for their third win of the season and third win in a row, the Junior B Cowichan Thunder played host to the Saanich Express on Tuesday, May 28 at Kerry Park Arena.

Despite six-point games from both Nate Akhurst and Addison Urquhart, and four-point nights from Jake Norman and Josh MacDonald, the win didn’t come as the Saanich Express pulled out a 12-10 road win.

The Thunder had earned their second win of the season Tuesday, May 21 when they ousted the Westshore Bears 11-7 at Kerry Park Arena.

Austin Webb opened the scoring just 30 seconds into the game, and his goal was followed not long after by three more Cowichan goals from Akhurst, Owen Papineau, and Norman respectively.

Westshore got two back before the end of the first but the Thunder led 4-2 after one period of play.

Norman earned his second of the game with the man-advantage to start the second period and put his team up 5-2 but the Bears countered within a minute.

Kaelann Grey restored the three-goal lead but two goals from Westshore pulled the visitors to within one at 6-5. Goals from Akhurst and Webb made it 8-5 after two periods.

Easton Jubenville potted a goal to open scoring in the third and Webb and Akhurst went on to score once more apiece giving each a hat trick.

Urguhart also turned heads for Cowichan, assisting on seven of the team’s 11 goals. MacDonald (2), Webb, Norman, Grey, Xander McCaffery, Brett Beachamp, Caden Morrison, and Rees Aebischer all picked up assists in the game.

Jackson Owen earned the win in net for the Thunder.
