Staff Sergeant Trevor Busch values community engagement and small town connections. He will meet with the public on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. in a meeting organized by the Ladysmith Residents Association.

The Ladysmith Residents Association will host a free public evening with Staff Sgt. Trevor Busch, detachment commander of the Ladysmith RCMP, on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 p.m. at the Eagles Hall, 921 First Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

The event is an opportunity for residents to meet Busch and hear directly from him about policing priorities, current projects and community safety initiatives. Busch will present highlights from the RCMP’s recent community questionnaire, discuss the detachment’s performance plan and share information about programs including Block Watch and online crime reporting.

There will also be an opportunity for public questions.

Busch assumed command of the Ladysmith detachment in February. An 18-year veteran of the RCMP, he previously served at the North Cowichan/Duncan detachment and has lived in Ladysmith for seven years.

“I know from his presentation to town council when he was first appointed that he really wants to have an open-door policy and to really engage with the community,” said Eva Vincent of the Residents Association. “We thought this was a good opportunity to get people together. We're always looking for ways to do that.”

While the association’s official mandate focuses on municipal taxation issues, Vincent said the group also focuses on providing information and helping foster a stronger community.

“It’s about engaging the community and addressing the things that people are concerned with,” she said.
