Parking enforcement in Ladysmith is about to become more consistent and proactive.
Parking violations were previously enforced on a complaint-driven basis, requiring residents to report infractions to city hall. With the recent hiring of a full-time Bylaw Compliance Officer, enforcement will now include more frequent, randomized patrols.
Ladysmith council first directed staff to increase enforcement of parking time limits during the April 2, 2024 meeting. The policy was later amended on Jan. 21, 2025, to remove references to the complaint-based system, solidifying the town’s shift toward proactive enforcement.
The new Bylaw Compliance Officer’s responsibilities extend beyond parking enforcement. According to the job posting for the position, duties include investigating bylaw complaints, responding to public inquiries, maintaining records, preparing legal documents and collaborating with the RCMP and fire services.
Residents will see more consistent enforcement as Ladysmith moves toward a system that promotes compliance and fair parking access.
By enforcing parking regulations, the town aims to create a fairer, more efficient system that supports local businesses, prevents long-term parking that reduces availability, and improves accessibility for residents and visitors.
