Instruments and voice meld in the Cowichan Consort Orchestra and Choir’s seasonal Cowichan Consort’s Christmas on Dec. 2 in Duncan.

The program will include carols and festive music that will see the orchestra and choir perform together. There will also be singalongs for the audience.

Composers will include J. Rutter. G. Holst, Coleridge-Taylor, L. Mozart, Anderson, Kreisler, and Yon. Baritone Kyron Basu or Shawnigan Lake will sing solos in Vaughan Williams’s ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’. Basu studied and taught music at the University of Victoria and the Victoria Conservatory of Music.

“As a performer, Kyron is a versatile baritone with a repertoire ranging from Bach to Berio,” said a press release for the concert.

He has appeared with groups such as Fretwork, the Victoria Baroque Players, Victoria Philharmonic Choir, and Victoria Children’s Choir. Recent engagements include the role of Christus in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion with the Victoria Philharmonic Choir and Schubert’s Mass in G with the Linden Singers, among others.

Conductor Pippa Williams will lead the orchestra, along with guest Marnie Setka-Mooney from Lake Cowichan. Setka-Mooney is the rehearsal choir director. Ryan Qu will accompany the choir on piano for pieces separate from the orchestra.

The show takes place at the Christian Reformed Church (930 Trunk Rd.) in Duncan, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $20 at the door, Volume One Bookstore, or from choir and orchestra members.
