WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF BOGUS BYLAWS
Everything today is just one big joke and our elected officials do not care and are only there for their taxpayer funded paycheques.
The City of Duncan has a bylaw #3056 “Boulevard Maintenance Bylaw”. All boulevards and clearing of weeds growing along sidewalks must be maintained by the taxpayer.
Most boulevards are maintained, but the sidewalk weeds are not. Example is St. Julian and Festubert Streets. All along the sidewalks contains weeds, some growing higher than the sidewalk.
The boulevard on St. Julian by the Duncan Dodge property needs to be cut. Emailed the city about this and reply email noted that the bylaw officer was contacted.
As of today nothing has been done by Duncan Garage.
The City of Duncan has a bylaw #2098 “Panhandling Bylaw”. Panhandling is allowed, but the bylaw states that the person panhandling must be 49 feet away from doorways.
At present, panhandlers are sitting outside banks and retail businesses right out side the entrance doors. Bylaw officers ignored the problem.
The bylaw also states that panhandlers standing at traffic intersections is a complete no no and must be removed immediately. Example is Trunk Road and the Trans Canada Highway.
Nothing is done and even the RCMP drive by and do nothing.
What is the purpose of having these bogus bylaws?
Street signs on Festubert and St. Julian are posted stating the hours of parking allowed in effect from Monday to Saturday. The signs are bogus because on Saturdays, no bylaw officers are checking for any parking violations. Park as long as you want.
The City of Duncan and the Municipality of North Cowichan create summertime labouring jobs for university students.
Are these jobs open to all students or just to students that have parents that are employed with the City or the Municipality. My guess would be students that have parents employed in the City and Municipality.
I recently attended a public meeting at Sands Chapel on Monday night in regards to the homeless and drug addiction problem.
Al Sebring, the mayor of North Cowichan, attended, but left very early and did not see the meeting to completion.
Absent from the meeting was MLA Sonia Furstenau, MP Alistair MacGregor, and Duncan city mayor, Michelle Staples.
Taxpayers should make note of this when the time comes for re-election.
Both the City of Duncan and the Municipality of North Cowichan raise our property taxes every year.
Both management and union employees are paid very healthy wages and benefits.
How about putting a 3 year wage freeze in place, thus creating 3 years of zero property tax increases.
In summary no one cares, but we all know that our elected officials do a excellent job in making sure that regular pay increases are given out to both management and union staff every year.
