A home on Babine Road in Crofton suffered significant damage after a fire broke out in its attic after 8 a.m. on March 11.

North Cowichan fire chief Ron French said no one was inside the house at the time so there were no injuries.

“The fire is still under investigation, but it appears to have begun after something shorted out in the attic,” he said. “The only one there was a son-in-law who was cleaning up around the property.”

French said 15 firefighters and equipment from the Crofton, Maple Bay and Chemainus fire halls had the fire extinguished about 15 minutes after arriving at scene, and spent another two hours clearing up the scene and ensuring the fire was totally out.
