Ryan McMahon is headed to the Duncan Showroom on Friday, April 1, with music including his new recording One More Fire.

It will be something of a sneak peek, as One More Fire will not be released in Canada until April 22, when it will be available online through Elbowroom Recordings Ltd.

McMahon, also known as Fox of well known group Lion Bear Fox, “recalls the feeling of new love in his latest release,” says a press release.

The song attempts to finish the sentence “I want to be”, says the release, coming up with a single word “happy”.

McMahon has shared the stage with the likes of Burton Cummings, Buffy Ste. Marie and Aaron Pritchett, with the latter lending his vocal talents to parts of One More Fire.

“Ryan has proven himself to be a charismatic Canadian chameleon,” says the release.

McMahon will be at the Showroom with his band starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

They list a wide range of influences on their roots and blues style, including classic Chicago blues, country, Cajun, rock and soul.

They are releasing their sixth album, Best Laid Plans, in 2022.

Also headed to the Duncan Showroom is The Ranters, who had to postpone a planned Jan. 29 show due to COVID, but will now hit the stage on Saturday, April 9.

According to a press release, this group has taken their inspiration from the origin of their name. The Ranters were “a heretic group of 16th century non-conformists who denied the authority of the church and scriptures, instead calling on the individual to listen to the divine within. Regarded by the government as a threat to social order.”

The group is comprised of Rockland Moran, Gillian Wale, and Tony and Kristia Di Gregorio, who describe their style as a blend of roots, folk, and Americana. “The Ranters sing the dark into the light, harmonizing a healthy contempt for authority with humour and optimism,” said a release for the show.

The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are offered at $15-$20 on a sliding scale.
