Former Lake Cowichan resident Larry Amstutz released his personal memoir Finding my Groove this summer to great reviews.

Amstutz will be at the Vancouver Island Regional Library branch in Lake Cowichan on Nov. 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., to discuss his book and sign copies.

The memoir, published by Friesen Press, takes readers on a journey across Canada and across time.

People yearn to fulfill their dreams and yet do not give themselves permission to do so, says a press release for the book.

Through a conversational style and personal stories, Amstutz demonstrates that it is OK to chase that dream; giving yourself permission to try and fail, to live and learn, and to love, be heartbroken and love again, the release said.

Amstutz spent seven years at the Nitinat Camp 3 logging camp at the north end of Cowichan Lake, and in a number of small towns on Vancouver Island.

During his career, he worked in forestry, mining, and other resource sector jobs, and studied and worked in radio broadcasting, his childhood dream career.

Now married and retired, the author lives in Tsawwassen with his wife Trisha, their terrier Gus, and a collection of acoustic guitars and his prized Vintage 60’s Fender Telecaster.

Reader Jane D, who describes herself as an Island girl, said in her review of Finding my Grove that Amstutz pulls you into his story of growing up in Lake Cowichan, from a logging camp to central Canada and back to the west coast with many stops and gigs along the way.

“He tells of the many challenges he overcame to eventually ‘find his own groove’,” Jane D said.

“Heartwarming, intriguing and well-written, Amstutz is a talented new writer.”

The memoir is available for order from most major online book retailers, including the Friesen Press Bookstore and Amazon.

The eBook is available for Kindle, iBooks, Kobo, Nook, and GooglePlay.
