The best New Years party in the Valley may well be at the Youbou Hall this year if the Youbou Community Association has anything to say about it.

The community group will be reviving their popular New Year’s Eve Dance at Youbou Hall this year, after a two-year-hiatus due to COVID.

The doors will open at 8 p.m. and the band, The Joints (Eagle Eyes) begin to play at 9 p.m.

“We do have the popular local musicians Jack Gunderson and Ray Harvey and their band mates returning to play Eagles tunes and other popular dance music,” confirmed Julia Martinusen, chair of the Youbou Community Association. “There will be a shuttle to the event, which can be reserved by emailing cherylmtutor@gmail.com by Dec.29.”

The shuttle costs $10 round-trip per person from Lake Cowichan and Bald Mountain and $5 per person within Youbou, Martinusen said.

This is a 19-plus event only. Sorry, kids.

“We’ll have lots of party favors, snacks and a hearty sandwich buffet, plus a balloon drop at midnight, all included in the $40 ticket price,” she added.

There’ll also be a cash bar, with non-alcoholic mixers and beverages available for free.

Tickets can be purchased from Youbou General Store, Daly’s Auto Centre, Cassy’s Coffee House, Youbou Bar & Grill, Ed’s Coffeehouse, and YCA board members.

“We hope to make it the best New Year’s party in the Valley,” Martinusen said.

For those who’d rather spend their New Year’s Eve on ice with the kids, the CVRD is once again hosting a New Year’s Eve family skate at Cowichan Lake Sports Arena, from 3 p.m. to 4 :50 p.m. on Dec. 31.

While entry is free, participants need to register online via reccowichan.ca
