Lake Cowichan firefighters held another successful Christmas toy drive Dec. 7-8.

They were cheerful Friday night despite the cold weather as they waited outside Country Grocer for people to arrive. Before long, the buggies began to fill with toys as Cowichan Lake folks dropped by with donations before enjoying hot dogs and hot beverages.

A highlight of the night was a gift of $2,153 worth of toys by an anonymous donor.

The next morning, the fire department was out again, with members flipping pancakes for their annual Breakfast with the Fire Department, and then later dishing up hot dogs again, while continuing to collect even more toys for the less fortunate.
