The Rotary Club of South Cowichan has presented the CMS Food Bank Society with an $8,000 donation.

The donation was made on Dec. 3, during B.C.’s Food Bank Day.

Rotary’s donation to the CMS Food Bank coincides with other very worthwhile efforts, including the recent “Stuff the Truck” campaign and the B.C.-wide Food Bank drive.

The food bank serves Cobble Hill, Mill Bay and Shawnigan Lake, which is roughly the same area South Cowichan Rotary serves.

The CMS Food Bank clearly outlines the most commonly needed items on their website, and funds provided by the rotary club will make it possible for the food bank to purchase the items most needed.

Food banks across B.C. have seen a major surge in visits as a result of the pandemic, an increased cost of living, decreased and/or lost incomes, a compromised food supply chain and, most recently, environmental emergencies.

“Rotarians, as volunteers, support other volunteer organizations in our community,” said Gay Wise, president of the Rotary Club of South Cowichan.

“The volunteers at the food bank are one of the most dedicated groups in our community. It is our privilege to be able to assist the work they do with such kindness to those in need.”
