Shawnigan Lake Easter Seals Camp will see a freshly cut lawn and some other improvements thanks to a fundraising project undertaken by the Malahat Lions Club over the last few years.
“We have been quietly collecting cans and bottles in the Shawnigan Cobble Hill area for sometime now to raise money for the Shawnigan Easter Seals Camp,” explained Neil Haley, president of the Malahat Lions Club.
The donation was given to the Improvement Committee of the Shawnigan Lake Easter Seals Camp and while a great many individuals helped the cause, Haley and the Lions Club wanted to thank some of those who spearheaded the project.
Haley said the group simply wanted to help to make the lives of those who utilize the camp a little better.
“For one month a year they get to experience a beautiful camp that is in need of repairs,” he explained.
“Thanks to Tom Worth, Gary Bishop and Judy Bobke for your time and effort. To all those other members involved in this very successful fundraising project, thank you.
“By gathering bottles and cans for a few years, your project has resulted in a donation of a brand new tractor mower for the camp and a gift of $3,000 towards other essential items,” said a Malahat Lions news release.
“We are so happy to be able to say that thanks to the Malahat Club members, the camp is going to have its lawns cut for our summer camp. Thanks also for all the hard work that the members of the Malahat Lions Club have put into the camp. The hard work and time are much appreciated; mowing of the lawns, building of new staircases, fences and decks, cleaning and clearing brush, removing the moss from stairs and roofs. It is only because of this much needed work and time that the camp is able to open its doors this summer.”
Should any of the Lions Clubs in the area wish to donate money towards the Shawnigan Lake Camp improvements, please ensure that your cheque is made out to “the Improvement Committee” of the Shawnigan Lake Easter Seals Camp.
