Lawn bowling club forms in Honeymoon Bay

Another step has been made toward getting Honeymoon Bay's lawn bowling green brought back up to standards, with last week's forming of the Honeymoon Bay Lawn Bowling Club.

Another step has been made toward getting Honeymoon Bay's lawn bowling green brought back up to standards, with last week's forming of the Honeymoon Bay Lawn Bowling Club.

The group met for the first time, Thursday, March 25, with president Bob Burden, vice president Guy Patten, membership director Susan Restall, secretary treasurer Karen Warren, and member Bob Bakken, making up the group.

"It'll be at least a couple years before we'll be bowling on them," Patten said, of the greens.

A lot of fund-raising and prep work must be done before they can be re-opened, he said.

The area must be fenced in, as the greens are made up of special grass that would be best left separate from dogs.

Possible fund-raisers include weekly cricket and bocce ball games on Sunday afternoons.

The group will next meet Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. at the Honeymoon Bay Community Hall.
