“This river is clean!” cried one diver as he returned to the surface of the Cowichan River in Lake Cowichan Sunday morning, Aug. 18.

He hadn’t been able to find anything to pick up at all in the area he was checking under the car bridge on South Shore Road as part of the annual Cowichan River clean-up event.

However, he had lots of helpers, from people in small boats, to scuba divers, to folks walking the shoreline, both from the water and the land side.

Meanwhile, an active group of volunteers at Central Park was also sorting through the bottles and cans donated as part of the campaign.

It was a busy, fun morning for everyone and they finished up with lunch before re-joining the Lake Cowichan 75th anniversary celebrations at Saywell Park later in the day.
