“We are totally accessible to everyone.”
That’s the latest byword at Lake Cowichan’s Royal Canadian Legion branch 210.
Members are proudly showing off a new accessibility lift these days and with good reason.
According to Legion’s Wilma Rowbottom, “The process going from application for grants to installation of the lift was just over two years.
“We received a $25,000 grant from Canada Services’ New Horizons for Seniors program, $3,9,88.82 from the Poppy Fund,” she said.
The rest of the total goal of $35,000 was reached with donations from members, Big Smoke Band, A&M painting, and Dulux Paints Duncan, with volunteers putting a roof over the lift.
Rowbottom and Second World War veteran Dennis Middlemiss cut the ribbon to officially open lift on Sunday, Oct. 29. Middlemiss also cut a celebratory cake to share with everyone. Mayor Ross Forrest and Coun. Carolyne Austin also joined the festivities.
