Jones’s Christmas Village is back this year

Donations go towards cancer treatment

The ever popular Jones’s Christmas Village will return this year in Youbou.

The family’s annual display of Christmas villages, which goes back 14 years, will again be held at Cassy’s Coffee House, located at 10375 Youbou Road, and all donations from the event will go towards cancer treatment at the Cowichan District Hospital.

The display was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Donna Jones said she is glad the display, which will fill a whole room at the coffee house, is back.

From tiny people to fully realized waterfront towns, tiny trains, a carousel, and little shops and houses galore, folks of all ages will find something to enjoy.

Jones said the display is free to enter, but donations to the hospital are gratefully appreciated.

She said $2,300 in donations was received in 2019, and she and her husband Dennis hope to raise $2,500 this year.

“I have had cancer three times and that’s why we we give the donations to cancer treatment at the CDH,” Jones said.

“We like to give back to the community. We also love to hear what people say about the display and the children are just amazing.”

Jones said the display will be open this year for the first time between Christmas and New Year.

“In the past, we’ve found that a lot of people said they wished we were open the week after Christmas because their son or someone else would only be here then and they would have liked them to see the display, so the coffee house agreed to extend it this year,” she said.

“We are also doing two evening viewings on Dec. 4 and Dec. 22.”

The Christmas Village display will be open Thursday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., from Dec. 2 to Dec. 19.

The display will also be open on Dec. 4, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Dec. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

After Christmas, the display will be open from Dec. 28-31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Masks and social distancing will be required.
