• South Cowichan Healthcare Auxiliary presented a cheque in the amount of $3,832 to Gretchen Hartley, executive director of Cowichan Valley Hospice Society in Duncan, Nov. 19.
SCHA have gathered theses monies by holding a beer and burger night at the Cow Bay Pub Oct. 6, and four hot dog sales throughout the summer at Country Grocer in Cobble Hill. They would like to thank these businesses for their support.
“SCHA is a very small Auxiliary, only 30 members. We work very hard to raise funds. We do not have a Thrift Shop, nor a gift shop. We hold fundraiser events throughout the year. All our efforts benefit Hospice, CDH, and Cairnsmore. If you’d like to know more, please see our Facebook page (please like us and share South Cowichan Healthcare Auxiliary) or website SouthCowichanHealthcareAuxiliary.ca
We meet every second Tuesday of the month at Mill Bay League Community Hall, next to Kerry Park Arena in Mill Bay, except July and August. We are always excited to welcome new volunteers: please email: SouthCowichanHealthcareAux@gmail.com for more info.

• The Royal Canadian Legion Malahat District Branch 134 welcomes Isabelle Hammer as the new president.
She comes with a wealth of experience. She served in the RCMP for 25 years in several cities in Alberta, and B.C. Her duties included senior supervisor sergeant in Surrey, Coquitlam, and White Rock and in Red Deer, Alberta she was a watch commander.
Isabelle has always been involved in the community. She was president of Sun Rise Red Deer Rotary Club and was involved in sports as a minor hockey and lacrosse manager and as an assistant in Ottawa Diplomatic Association Ball Committee. In Cranbrook, Isabelle and her husband Vince ran a hobby farm with multiple rescued cats, laying hens, meat birds and cows.
This past year Isabelle and Vince have been very active in and around the Legion serving on the executive committee and helping to upgrade and make repairs. They gave up their summer replacing our antiquated kitchen. Some Saturdays they can found in the “Galley” as one of Isabelle’s hobbies is cooking and baking.
The group also thanks the following executive members for their service and commitments over the past several years. Cde. Robert Brown (past president) and Cde. Paddi Paddison (vice president). Cde. Wilf Nash will be staying on as past president. The new vice president is Cde. Jeff Lydiatt.
