Youth get Charged UP! this Friday in Duncan at Earth Guardians event

Earth Guardians is holding a Youth get Charged UP! Event on Friday, Nov. 29 at Duncan United Church.

It’s a professional development day for school staff, so organizers are hoping students looking for something to do will be there in droves, though folks of all ages are invited to attend.

Local organizations such as the Cowichan branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, the Cowichan Estuary Nature Centre, #vote16bc, Cowichan Land Trust and One Cowichan will be there operating information booths. Transition Cowichan will be there with their “people powered” sewing machine to make up-cycled Christmas bags.

There will be an art and faceprinting table for younger children, a silent auction and a bake sale, as well as youth performers throughout the day (singing, poetry, speeches).

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Community invited to help Cram the Cruiser in Duncan Friday

The holiday season is upon us in the Cowichan Valley and with that, the need for supporting our local community is in the forefront.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP have partnered with the Duncan Real Canadian Superstore this Nov. 29 to collect non-perishable food items, toys and other donations that will be distributed amongst families.

Police officers and store employees will be out front of the store with hot dogs and hot chocolate between the hours of 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. collecting donations for the Cowichan Valley Basket Society. Local radio station 89.7 Juice FM will be broadcasting live onsite for duration of the event.

“Please come out and support our community by cramming our police truck full of joy and cheer this holiday season,” said Const. Pam Bolton, North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP. “We look forward to seeing you out there.”
