The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #134 (Malahat) will be honouring the over 2,600 Canadian service men and women who have lost their lives on Canadian soil, in the everyday duty of keeping our nation safe and strong by holding a special service at the Cobble Hill Cenotaph on Saturday, Oct. 19.

They have given their lives, not in war or during a peacekeeping deployment, but in the inherently dangerous everyday duty of keeping our nation safe and strong.

This special service date has been chosen as that of the Saturday closest to Oct. 22. This date was selected after the deaths of Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent on Oct. 20, 2014 and Corporal Nathan Frank Cirillo on Oct. 22, 2014 after being shot while serving as an honour guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Ontario.

The service begins at 11 a.m.. Refreshments will be served afterwards at the Malahat Legion, 1625 Shawnigan Mill Bay Rd.
