Youbou celebrating fall with Oktobeerfest at the Youbou Hall

Oct. 13 in Youbou means Oktobeerfest.

The Youbou Community Association is holding this their first ever such event, and it’s going to be a party at the Youbou Hall.

Yep. A beer drinking, sausage and pretzel munching, and dancing to rock ‘n’ roll kind of party. The music will be by Littlehead from Nanaimo, who play both covers and originals.

And you and your friends are invited.

Doors open at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $20 each. Get them in Youbou at Daly’s gas station, Shop & Save, Cassy’s Coffee Shop, and at Tiptons gas station and Scarlett’s in Lake Cowichan.

There’s a free shuttle bus, too, so you can enjoy an Oktobeerfest brew or two with your friends. So, get the gang together and celebrate.

Halloween Train is ready to take to tracks at Forest Discovery Centre

Halloween is an exciting event for family fun and entertainment at the BC Forest Discovery Centre.

The Centre is promising even more fun this year, with nine full nights of thrills, chills and fun beginning on Friday, Oct. 19 and running until Sunday, Oct. 21, then beginning again on Thursday, Oct. 25 and running through to Tuesday, Oct. 30.

Behind the scenes the volunteers and staff are already getting ready and preparing the best Halloween Train event ever with lots of new displays to thrill.

Doors open at 3:30 p.m. and trains run every half hour until 8:30 p.m. with the Centre closing at 9 p.m.

Activities each evening include crafts in the schoolhouse, train rides, trick or treat stations for the little ones, and live entertainment. There will be lots of hot chocolate, coffee, chili and a bun plus other hot food available to purchase so you can sit back, watch the fun and enjoy the warmth of the popular fire pits. A number of live actors will be on site so be prepared for some spooky characters.

This is a family friendly event but it can be a little scary for very young children and it’s suggested that you bring them early before the sun sets.

Don’t forget to dress up in your best costume!

The Halloween Train and most displays are covered so you can have fun rain or shine. The BC Forest Discovery Centre offers advance tickets on sale at the Cowichan Regional Visitor’s Centre or Duncan Save-On-Foods at the customer service desk.

Please note: Advance ticket holders and members have a separate line access for expedited entry.

Prices: adults $12, seniors $10, youth (13-18 years old) $10, children $8. Children two years old and under are admitted free.
