Want to do your family tree? Start at free course

Two free genealogy classes are coming up at the Duncan library, presented by the Duncan Family History Centre.

The first is called Tracing Your Family Tree — For Beginners, and it is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, 3-4:30 p.m. with instructor Gord Hamilton.

Learn the basics of record-keeping and research, to get you started off doing it right. Pedigree charts, proper record-keeping, and genealogy software form the basic foundation. There will also be research tips, sources, online resources, handouts help to get you going.

The second class is Where’s Grandma? Researching women in your genealogy, and runs Saturday, Jan. 19, 3-4:30 p.m. with instructor Carol Stiles.

Researching women is sometimes more difficult than the paternal lines because many of the documents and source materials did not record maiden names. It is not impossible though!

This class will teach you strategies to discover those elusive women in your family lines, and a few tricks to find the maiden names.

Registration is not required for either class.
