The Charged Up! festival is on Sept. 21 in Duncan
It runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Charles Hoey Park in downtown Duncan, and its purpose is to educate local citizens on fossil fuel alternatives and new ways of thinking about consumerism.
Hosted by One Cowichan, it will showcase some of the positive ways that people in the Valley are already transitioning and developing resilience in the face of climate emergency.
It is designed to be an engaging community-driven event. Everyone is welcome and free to attend.
Enjoy Oktoberfest on Sept. 21
The Rotary Club of Duncan is holding an Oktoberfest Celebration on Saturday, Sept. 21.
Doors open at 6 p.m. at Mellor Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition grounds. Live music will be provided by the Doctors of Rock ‘N Roll from Nanaimo, and Red Arrow Brewery and Merridale Ciderworks will serve a selection of local beverages.
Tickets are $30 and include admission, German food and your first glass of beer or wine. Get them through eventbrite.ca or from Red Arrow Brewery or Cowichan Green Community.
This is a fundraising event, with money raised helping the Rotary Club support many local youth programs, including Pregnancy Food Connection, a program the provides healthy food options for low income mothers in the Cowichan Valley.
St. John’s Anglican September Festival coming up Sept. 21
September Festival at St. John’s Anglican Church has been a fixture on the Cowichan Valley calendar for the last 35 years.
It will be taking place at 3295 Cobble Hill Rd. on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.
“Come and join us for all the ‘fun of the fair’,” say organizers.
Having been piped in browse through the books, rummage through the gigantic yard sale or better buys, find a new outfit, take home some fresh fruit, veggies or plants from the garden centre, and sit down and enjoy a divine dessert or hamburgers and hotdogs. There will be activities for your grandchildren or the ones you have borrowed for the day. The silent auction has some intriguing theme baskets on offer, Canon John will be at the vicar’s station and there will be other exciting things to do. Debit/credit cards will be accepted at most of the venues. The Hand in Hand Thrift Shop will also be open.
As always, funds raised will be used to support the church and other projects.
