Series of seminars on climate change emergency coming up

Are you interested in the climate change emergency? Chemainus Climate Solutions Group & the Chemainus United Church are sponsoring a series of public seminars titled “Confronting the Climate Emergency: Causes, Impacts, Ethics, Solutions & Actions”, which will run Saturday afternoons from mid-February to Mid-March.

First up on Feb. 15 is “Climate Damage - Causes & the ‘Tipping Point Threat’” with Geoff Strong, atmospheric/climate scientist. Then, on Feb. 22 find out about “Ethics & the Climate Crisis: the Moral Imperative for Action” with Garth Mahalcheon, psychology and management, and close out February on the 22nd with “Climate Emergency: A 26 Week Transition Program for Canada” with Guy Dauncey, author and eco-futurist.

On March 7 there is a double presentation. First up is “Project Drawdown” with John Scull, conservation psychologist, then “Youth in the Climate Crisis” with Katia Bannister, a high school student and climate activist.

The series wraps up on March 14 with a climate change panel, moderated by Geoff Strong. Panel members include Guy Dauncey, Dr. Ken Denman, Dr. Neil Swart, MP Alistair MacGregor, Claire Hume, and CVRD chairman Aaron Stone.

All presentations take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Chemainus United Church.

Nominations open for Cowichan Leaders of Tomorrow Awards

Nominate a youth for the 8th Annual Leaders of Tomorrow Awards in Cowichan.

This is your opportunity to nominate youth (age six to 24) that demonstrate leadership through their volunteer efforts.

This event is truly “all about the nomination”, acknowledging all efforts made by each volunteer.

The awards event to be held on Friday, April 24, during National Volunteer Week at the Cowichan Community Centre.

Deadline for nominations is Friday, April 3.
