Bowl for Kids Sake coming up in Cowichan Valley on March 3

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Cowichan Valley is holding their annual Bowl For Kids Sake event to raise money for their mentoring programs on Sunday, March 3.

The funds raised go directly towards matching at-risk children with caring Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Community participation in the event ensures more children in the Cowichan Valley have a positive role model that makes a difference in their lives. When children experience regular contact with a mentor who listens, encourages and supports them, they’re in a position to accomplish new goals and grow in many new ways that builds them up for success. Studies show that having a caring mentor positively impacts brain development and equips children and youth with the skills needed to deal with the adversities and stress they face in a complicated world.

Bowl For Kids Sake takes place at Duncan Lanes on Sunday, March 3. The first session will run from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., and the second session from 3 p.m. to 5.

The event will feature bowling teams comprised of local businesses, organizations, and community members who have raised money in pledges. Teams are required to pre-register for the event. In addition, there will be one “Team Littles” per — these are teams comprised of Big Brothers & Sisters and Little Brothers & Sisters. Team Littles are sponsored by local businesses and this year the Team Littles will be sponsored by Tim Hortons and Falt Towing.

The event theme this year is the AWESOME 80s, and teams are encouraged to dress the part!

Volunteer Cowichan is calling for nominations for the Leaders of Tomorrow Awards.

You can nominate a youth, between the ages of six and 24, who you feel has demonstrated leadership through their volunteer efforts.

“This event is all about the nomination, acknowledging all efforts made by each volunteer in their own special way,” said organizers.
