Sheron Chrysler is the recipient of the 2018-19 Albin & Georgina Falt Memorial Coaches Recognition Award.
Chrysler was presented with the honour by Theresa and Don Bodger, sponsors of the award, during Monday night’s Ceevacs Road Runners running clinic session at the Cowichan Sportsplex in Duncan. The award is named in honour of Theresa’s dad Albin and mom Georgina, who died in 2017 and 2013, respectively.
The award honours someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty in a coaching capacity within the Cowichan Valley. Chrysler certainly fits the bill, having been a strong runner, promoter of the sport, event organizer and coach for most of her life. She turns 60 this year.
Chrysler is well-known in the running community on the Island for her great work with Ceevacs. The club provides opportunities for runners of all levels to come together for fitness and fun.
Chrysler has devoted herself to giving even the most casual runners a chance to improve themselves through her individual or group sessions.
This is the sixth time the award has been presented since inception. It’s been awarded three times as part of the Cowichan Valley Athlete of the Year banquet, but since that event is no longer held, it’s given out during any public event featuring the individual.
Last year’s winner was Shannon McKinlay while she was head coach of the Fuller Lake Skating Club.
