Chemainus celebrates Little Town Christmas Dec. 7

This free family event invites local children to celebrate Christmas with creativity

The community elves of the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society have been busy at work once again, preparing for this year's Little Town Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 7.

This free family event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Chemainus Legion with creative activities and games for kids.

Little Town Christmas committee chair Karen Doiron of CVCAS says this year will build on last year's fun and she's looking forward to being surrounded by happy people singing Christmas carols and gathering with community members.

Vancouver Island Photo Booth will be on hand to take family holiday photos from 1 - 2:15 p.m. You can get a print of your photo at the event or have it sent to you digitally. The big man himself will be available for photos with Santa from 2:30 - 4 p.m.

Kids can get creative with Imagination Station and make their own Christmas ornaments. There will be face painting and fun games (like the 'reindeer toss'!) along with tasty treats like hot dogs and hot chocolate. The Rotary Club of Chemainus will once again be operating their popular s'mores station where attendees can enjoy the deliciously gooey campfire classic snack and Island Pastry Haus has donated their famous Christmas cookies.

The wreath-making table is back where kids and adults can make a wreath from live greenery.

Thanks to many generous community donors, this year's raffle has prizes galore including tickets to the sure-to-sell-out holiday play Miss Bennett: Christmas at Pemberley at the Chemainus Theatre, 18 holes of golf at the Mount Brenton Golf Course, a 10-visit pool pass for the mineral pool at the Chemainus Best Western, as well as gift cards from Bound to Be Different, Country Grocer and much more. Raffle tickets are $2 each or three tickets for $5.

Speaking of prizes, children will be entered into a door prize draw to win one of two Amazon tablets. And what would a Christmas party be without carolling? There will be live performances by the local band Sweet Harmony and plenty of Christmas carol sing-along opportunities.

The event, along with all activities and refreshments, is free for children 16 years old and younger. For adults, donations for hot dogs and refreshments are appreciated, but those accompanying littles are welcome to enjoy, regardless of their ability to contribute.

Don’t miss the chance to celebrate the season, make memories, and share in the festive spirit of Chemainus!
