The Vintage Machinery Society’s annual Father’s Day Tractor Show should be a pull to get dads, granddads, and great granddads down to the BC Forest Discovery Centre for a fun filled weekend on June 15 and 16 to see vintage tractors from across the island.

Admission is $3 for these special men when accompanied by their children.

“Everyone with old tractors is invited to the museum,” said event organizer Geoff Hopps. “As with others, we’re expecting tractors from Nanaimo, Courtenay, and Campbell River this year, and the event continues to grow yearly.”

It’s two days of fun for the price of one to celebrate one of your family’s superheroes. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for both community members and visitors to enjoy on both days. The train the ‘Green Hornet’ will run every half hour on both days.

Not sure what to buy dad this year? Arrive early and participate in ‘The Home Depot Build Dad a Gift’ event which will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on both days while supplies last.

“We always like to add to the visitor experience and this year Home Depot has once again made our Fathers Day event more special with their generous participation in the Fathers Day Gift Building Event,” said BC Forest Discovery Centre manager Chris Gale. “Kids can build a Home Depot sponsored ‘Build Dad a Gift’ project, and there are a few different children’s projects to choose from, but there is only one project per family to be built while supplies last. It’s a fun team building project for the whole family.”

The centre is looking to have Chef de Centre Manager cook up his famous BBQ Burgers at the lower concession throughout the weekend.

On June 16 the centre’s tractor parade rolls out from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the popular slow tractor race at 1:30 p.m. — awards will be presented at 2 p.m. Hang on to your Saturday ticket as it will give you access to the centre until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. This two-day event is also free for those who have a 2024 membership.

The BC Forest Discovery Centre is located just north of Duncan on the Trans Canada Highway — for more information the call the centre at 250-715-1113, or visit their website at www.bcforestdiscoverycentre.com.

“At the BC Forest Discovery Centre it’s our local residents and members who play the biggest role in supporting the museum through their repeat visits and attending our special events. It’s why our memberships are such a great value both through family and corporate memberships,” said Gale. “Visitors to this year’s festivities will enjoy the collection of vintage tractors, the tractor parades, slow races, the concession and Home Depot’s Build Dad a Gift. It’s going to be a great event to celebrate Father’s Day with your Dad and the whole family, and one of the centre’s most popular events.”
