Annual 4-H horse camp goes ahead — with a few changes

Riders went home each evening

The Cowichan 4-H Horse Club just completed their annual horse camp at the Cowichan Exhibition grounds again this year. The format was different due to COVID-19, with the camp only having daily events, with the horse and rider going home every evening.

The 4-H members still had a fun week allowing the horses and riders to have professional coach Fonda Munro provide several training sessions.

The horse and members had group classes in Western and English riding styles, split up morning and afternoon, learning how to improve both their individual riding style and how to compete in the various styles of competitive riding.

On the final day of camp, the group rode in the morning, finishing riding instruction, then had a session with a local vet on the care of your horse and what to look for to keep your horse healthy and fit. The afternoon session and last event of the camp was the fun horse and rider play events including a modified game of musical chairs and an egg walk, testing both horse and rider skills, but in a very fun way.
